Lake Toba is the largest natural lake in Indonesia which is formed from the supervolcanic caldera. This lake is the largest volcanic lake in the world. The government program 2014/2019 period has set it as one of the priority destinations for tourism. Transportation facilities in the form of ships are needed to support this lake tourism. Currently, on Lake Toba, there are 4 LCT (landing craft tank) and traditional wooden ships for transportation to Samosir Island in the middle of Lake Toba. With the increasing number of tourists both local and foreign, the number of ships for transportation of tourists needs to be increased. However, these ships were not built in the shipyard. This is because there is no proper shipyard to carry out the construction or repairs of these ships. This study aims to design shipyards that are suitable for building in the Lake Toba region. The research used SWOT analysis. The results show that shipyards with airbag systems have great strengths and opportunities compared to weaknesses and threats. With the presence of shipyards, it can also help in improving the quality of ship shipping and safety because ships can be controlled every year and repaired with more adequate facilities.
