Abstract

Coal has an important role in economic development in Indonesia, therefore it is necessary to support optimal coal transport. The study is to optimize the transport of coal with an initial capacity of 7.ooo.ooo tons per year and will be increased to 14.ooo.ooo tons per year with the use of barges and the utilization of the river and tidal differences as a means of transportation to the transhipment port at sea and by using large ships for export. Differences tidal stream occurs twice in one day, with a water depth of 3,4 m. Capacity conveyor for coal loading at the river terminal is about 1.840mt / hr and 1.042 mt / hr in Transhipment terminal. In the normal condition, location silting of tidal areas that can not be passed by barge along the 1,7 km. The size of the barges used 270 ft with a capacity of 5260 Tons. Distance traveled as far as 62 km. Transportation concept used in this study is by utilizing the empty barge placement at the loading port and unloading port at the transhipment to increase the transport capacity. The use of barges with a draft of 3.6 m is the choice of the most optimal and the results of the coal transport by using the concept of the proposed transport has increased 20% more compared with conventional coal transport system. Further increase the efficiency of coal transport needs to increase capacity at the unloading port and transhipment facilities. .
