Abstract
Literature is one of many ways to express our feelings, emotions, and experiences. An annotated translation is a translation which is supported by annotations or notes or explanations in order to deliver logical reasons for the equivalence chosen. Annotated translation is most commonly used in novel or movie and usually used in both fiction and nonfiction writing. Novel is a kind of play or drama. In literary work like novel, annotated translation is used to making an annotated translation, translator describes te process of achieving equivalence through in-depth research and look back on whether the selected equivalent is appropriate. Annotated translation using English Indonesia translation method that usually focus on “content” of message. The form anotation translation for the needs of the reader. Generally, the character, background, and social context be adapted with “culture”. In this research, data was taken from the novel "The Casual Vacancy". This study used two theories, namely theory of annotation translation and theory of meaning. The Theory of Annotated Translation uses the theory of Newmark (1988) to support the analysis.
