Abstract

Self-efficacy is defined as a person's belief in his ability to organize and execute a number of actions that are needed to produce the desired accomplishments and achievements. Social cognitive theory is often associated with academic achievement. Correspondingly, a study is conducted to evaluate the self-efficacy of first semester students majoring in English literature associated with the achievement of their learning in the subject of Interactive Grammar. The data on self-efficacy were obtained through a Likert scale instrument of self-efficacy, while the data on achievement were taken from the students' academic performance test in the subject of Interactive Grammar with descriptive data processing techniques, Pearson correlation, and Anova. The results showed that self-efficacy are not always aligned with the achievement. This means that high self-efficacy is not necessarily followed by a high achievement scores anyway, so in this study there was no significant correlation found between the two. Thus self-efficacy cannot be a predictor of achievement in students who attend Interactive Grammar classes. Explanation related to the cause included in this study.
