Abstract
Translation is not an easy task because it includes two languages that have cultural differences, as well as interpreting one language to another with similar meanings. The knowledge of the culture of both languages and the knowledge of the texts being translated and target readers play a very important role when it comes to making a good translation. Therefore, to avoid literal translation, possible misunderstandings, and inaccuracies, it is not enough for a translator to have an excellent knowledge of both languages but also that of their culture. The purpose of this study is to find out the translation strategies used in “Wonder” movie script. This study uses qualitative approach and content analysis method to conduct the research. In this study, I have analyzed 55 data and divided to 2 categories; 50 data in phrase category, and 5 data in clause category. The research findings consist of expansion subtitle strategy, transfer subtitle strategy, paraphrase strategy, and deletion subtitle strategy. The most dominant translation strategy used is paraphrase. Through this research, I have knowledge of how translation strategies being applied to phrases and clauses.
