Abstract

This thesis discusses the theme of literary works by using a novel form of intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through the intrinsic approach there are applied concepts: characterization, setting, and plot. And trough extrinsic approach there is applied The American Dream concept. This study is the variety of qualitative research, types of literature research, nature interpretive I analytical methods of data collection in the form of literary texts from the novel The Lovely Ambition by Mary Ellen Chase as a primary source and is supported by some literatures related to the concepts and the definitions that are relevant as a secondary source.
