Abstract
This term-paper discusses about the theme of a literary work of film by applying 2 (two) approaches; intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through the intrinsic approach, the conceptsare: characterization using showing method, Beside that, there are also characterization through the action of the character such as: behavior and the motivation of the figure. For the extrinsic approaches there are American Dream and Maslow' s Hierarchy of Needs by Abraham Maslow. This term-paper explains about Chris Gardner as a father who was struggling for achiving American Dream and getting the top of his needs, happiness. In this research, film Pursuit of Happyness and the script are the primary sourcesand supported by some of relevant theories, concepts, and definitions which as secondary sources.
