Abstract

The identity crisis that the lead character in the movie "Barbie" went through was caused by the intrinsic and extrinsic methods employed in this study to evaluate the impact of patriarchy and feminism. Real-life scenarios still commonly include both feminism and patriarchy. Using the theory of literary psychology, the research attempts to examine extrinsic elements like feminism and patriarchy in the main focus, plot, setting, and script of the movie "Barbie". Moreover, the research seeks to uncover the gender bias encountered by the main protagonists, resulting in a state of confusion regarding their sense of self. From February to July 2024, the research will be conduct at Darma University in East Jakarta. This study employs a qualitative methodology to analyze information from movie scripts and library research. The protagonist of the Barbie film tells the tale of Barbie's journey for her identity. This research uses Erikson's theory of identity crisis that everyone experiences an identity crisis at some time, which can be witnessed. The study's results indicate that Barbie is facing gender discrimination, which is driving her to have an identity crisis.
