Abstract
An annotated translation is a translation, which is supported by annotations or notes with the purpose of delivering logical reasoning on the equivalence chosen. It does not only aim at the application of various theories formerly studied, but also at the the translator’s responsibility for the independent translation he or she has accomplished. The search for equivalence through the annotated translation of novel the Da Vinci Code into Bahasa Indonesia, has been done pragmatically as well as sociolinguistically by looking up in dictionaries, thesaurus, and encyclopaedia, and visiting some websites on the internet. The independent translation is further carried out by referring to the basic theories of translation, which consists at least of methods, procedures, and techniques. The difference between the source language and the target language culture makes a word, term, and expression, cannot be explicitly translated. Thus, the use of translation techniques becomes inevitable.
