Abstract

Humans are blessed with mouth to speak; humans also have language for their everyday communication tools. It cannot be denied that language is indeed the most important thing in life, because with language, humans can understand each other through exchanging verbal messages that are coming out of the mouths of each interlocutor. This research is about figurative language found in Arctic Monkeys’ songs. The writer used qualitative approach by descriptive method using the lyrics from Arctic Monkeys’ songs. The writer uses the theory from Lakoff and Johnson in this term paper. It is figured that most songs from the Arctic Monkeys have hyperbole, metaphor, simile, personification, sarcasm, rhetorical question, and idiomatic expression, with metaphor dominated most of the songs.
