Abstract
This study discuss the reason of code switching used by Mike Lewis that are analyzed by using qualitative descriptive method. Qualitative descriptive method is procedure that uses descriptive data in the form of words written or spoken by people and actors can be observed. This research is conducted with code switching, first language, and second language acquistition. This study focuses on analysing code switching used by Mike Lewis, using the theory of code switching proposed by Hoffman (1992) and the theory of L2 acquistition proposed by Beardsmore (1982). Data are taken from Mike Lewis’s interviews. The aims of this research are to describe the reason why a Mike Lewis does the code switching and to find out how the first language can affect second language and give an impact to the use of code switching.
