Abstract

This term paper discusses the theme of a novel. Two approaches, intrinsic and extrinsic approaches, are applied to analyze this novel. The concept that is applied to analyze through intrinsic approach consists of characterization by using showing and telling methods, setting, and plot. The concept to analyze through extrinsic approach in psychology literature by using the concept of anxiety and jealousy. This research explains the anxiety and jealousy in the main character, as well as its relation to other intrinsic elements. In this research, The Wife Between Us novel is the primary source and supported by some of the relevant theories, concepts, and definitions that as secondary sources. The object of this research is a novel written by Greer Hendrick and Sarah Pekkanen entitled. The Wife Between Us is a story that tells of her life after she divorced Richard with the theory of jealousy and anxiety. She seems to be a jealous ex-wife because she was devastated when she found out that Richard married the girl he had an affair with. Through his research, I can conclude that Vanessa's experience of excessive anxiety and jealousy can cause the psychological growth of sufferers to be disrupted. The purpose of this study is to explain the symptoms of excessive anxiety and jealousy and also to tell the reader not to try to experience these kinds of things.
