Abstract

In late December 2019, an unidentified virus appeared, currently named COVID-19. This virus has caused a formidable outbreak in many cities in China and has expanded globally, such as the United States, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and also our country. It is necessary to see Joko Widodo’s COVID-19 Indonesia’s policy speech from the perception that he is the President of the Republic of Indonesia with his own power and ideology, who is called the number one in this country. This research aims to analyze language, power, ideology, and framing used by Joko Widodo in his speech about government policies in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative methods since the result of the data analysed is in some comments about the narrative. The object of this research is Joko Widodo speech. The result of this research is that Joko Widodo demonstrated his power and ideology in making policy decisions related to the COVID-19 pandemic throughout his speech. Through his speech, Joko Widodo uses various framing as a great and important policy to be known by the public. He framed himself in humanity, justice, and striving issues for the Indonesian people’s prosperity.
