Abstract

This research aims to describe the types and the meaning of deixis found in "Turning Red" (2022) movie script. The research method used is the descriptive-qualitative method because the purpose of this research is to describe the use of deixis found in "Turning Red" (2022) movie script. The research object in this research is "Turning Red" (2022) movie script by Domee Shi. The research data are collected from all the words and phrases that contain deictic expressions and are conveyed by several characters in "Turning Red" (2022) movie script. The result of this research are 113 data found and analysed, consisting of person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis. Then, the deictic words found in “Turning Red” (2022) movie script are ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘we’, ‘she’, ‘he’, ‘it’, ‘now’, ‘today’, et cetera. 83 data are classified to person deixis, 4 data to place deixis, 3 data to time deixis, 11 data to social deixis, and 12 data to discourse deixis. The characters in “Turning Red” used various deixis in any situational context depending on their purpose when conversing to each other.
