Abstract

This research aims to analyze code-mixing used in Livy Renata’s YouTube channel video so that it enriches our understanding of language use in the modern digital era. This research uses the theory by Muysken (2000) to elaborate the types of code-mixing and the most dominant type used by Livy Renata. The object of this research is the chosen YouTube video of Livy Renata entitled “ALONE IN JAPAN: HOW DO I SPEND IN A DAY?” and the data is collected from Livy’s utterances. A descriptive qualitative method is used in this research and the data is analyzed using observation and note taking technique. The result shows that out of 86 data, there are 27 data or 31% of insertion, 39 data or 47% of alternation, and 20 data or 22% of congruent lexicalization. Therefore, the most dominant type of code-mixing used by Livy Renata is alternation.
