Abstract
This term-paper discusses the theme of a literary work of a novel. To analyze the theme, I use intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Intrinsic approach apply the concepts of characterization, by using showing method, setting, plot. Meanwhile, the extrinsic approach use the study of Dissatisfaction and Unfaithfulness concepts. The term paper is a qualitative research that combine humanistic psychology approach. The research uses a novel The Chapman Report by Irving Wallace as the primary source, and supported by some literatures related to relevant theories, concepts and definitions, as secondary sources. The purpose of the term-paper is to know what dissatisfaction and unfaithfulness in literary work are, and to know how dissatisfaction leads into unfaithfulness in the novel. The result is The Chapman Report has indicated dissatisfaction leads into unfaithfulness. It can be concluded that the result of the term-paper is same as the theme of the novel. Key words: The Chapman Report, dissatisfaction, unfaithfulness, humanistic. Skripsi ini membahas tema karya sastra dari sebuah novel. Telaah tema tersebut menggunakan pendekatan instrinsik dan ekstrinsik. Melalui pendekatan intrinsik diterapkan konsep-konsep karakterisasi, menggunakan metode showing, latar, serta alur; sedangkan untuk pendekatan ekstrinsik digunakan konsep ketidakpuasaan dan ketidaksetiaan. Skripsi ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang mengkombinasikan psikologi humanistik. Skripsi ini menggunakan novel The Chapman Report karya Irving Wallace sebagai sumber primer, dan didukung oleh beberapa literatur yang terkait dengan teori, konsep, dan definisi yang relevan sebagai sumber sekunder. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seperti apa ketidakpuasan dan ketidaksetiaan dalam karya sastra, dan mengetahui ketidakpuasan yang mengarah kepada ketidaksetiaan dalam novel tersebut. Hasil penelitian dari skripsi ini menunjukan bahwa novel The Chapman Report menunjukkan ciri-ciri ketidakpuasan yang mana dapat mengarah kepada ketidaksetiaan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil penelitian merupakan tema dari novel tersebut. Kata kunci: The Chapman Report, ketidakpuasan, ketidaksetiaan, humanistik
