Abstract

Intercultural pragmatics can be applied in the applied linguistics as a second language acquisition and translation (Blum-Kulka, 1997:56). The relationship between pragmatics and translation can be explained through an understanding of the translated text (oral or written) is one form of communication across languages and intercultural. Pragmatic failure (Wierzibka) is a failure of communication participants to understand 'what is meant by the saying'. Causes of failure in the pragmatic shift in communicating the message included in the translation, can be explained ranging from aspect to aspect pragmalinguistik sosiopragmatik (Thomas, 1983:99) which are the two ends of one's continum of pragmatic abilities. Pragmalinguistic capabilities include the ability of the speaker and hearer to use forms of language associated with a pragmatic function or power of ilocusioner speech, such as speech act and conversational routine. In addition, the ability of communications sosiopragmatic participants include the ability to choose and use languages based forms of social and cultural knowledge related to the relationship between the participants said covering power, social distance and the severity of the message content, as well as interactional norms are commonly used, such as turn strategy talk and politeness strategies. In communication seems reasonable to assume that a speaker articulate speech with the intention to communicate something to the other party, and hope they are talking about to be able to understand what was communicated. As a speakers always trying to speech always relevant to the context, clear, and easily understood, dense and compact (Concise), and always at issue (straight forward), neither spend time talking (Dewa Putu Wijana, 1996). When a deviation occurs in a conversation, there are certain implications to be achieved by the speakers. If the implications were not there, then the speakers did not concern to implementation of cooperative or non-cooperative. So, in summary it can be assumed that there is some sort of principle of cooperation to do the speaker and listener so that it runs smoothly in process of communication. Dewa Putu Wijana (1996) expressed the opinion that Grice and Austin in order to implement the principles of cooperation, each speaker must abide by four conversational maxim, there are maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and the maxim of Manner.
