Abstract

This study examines the idioms formed from the word hiza in the written languages of shoseki in the online corpus of Balanced Corpus Of Contemporary Written Japanese. There are problems that have been concluded, namely: idioms cannot be understood by interpreting the words that form them but must also look at their idiomatic meanings. Then, idioms are often used by Japanese people in daily communication both orally and in writing. Idioms can also be found in textbooks used by Japanese language learners, but they are only examples in sentences and there is no explanation for the idiom. In addition, research examining the hiza idiom is still minimal, and finally the use of the hiza idiom is quite a lot found in the written languages of shoseki in the online corpus of Balanced Corpus Of Contemporary Written Japanese. The purpose of this study was to determine the form and use of idioms formed from the word hiza and to determine the lexical meaning and idiomatic meaning of the idiom hiza. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive analysis method. The results of the analysis of this study are (1) there are 12 forms of idioms formed from the word hiza with the number of uses in the example sentences as many as 210 idioms. (2) The idiom hiza has several meanings, including: the meaning related to sitting position, approaching the other person/speaking person, indicating one's condition (lonely, trembling legs, suddenly remembered/admired), chatting, losing, and submission
