Abstract
This study aims to analyze the subtitle strategies found in the movie entitled “Enola Holmes” movie script (2020). The guiding perception of subtitling and subtitling strategies by Gottlieb (1992) is used to identify the subtitling strategy in the movie and further determine the most frequent strategies that are identified. Moreover, the readability of the Indonesian subtitles provided in the movie is also determined. This research is conducted using qualitative research approach to present the data analysis. The method of content analysis in gathering the data and further analyzing that is applied as the data are in the form of text excerpted from the movie script. There are several results of this study. The first result shows that there is a total of 9 subtitle strategies found in the movie including expansion, paraphrase, transfer, imitation, dislocation, condensation, decimation, deletion, and resignation. The second result includes the discovery of the most frequently used strategy which consists of paraphrase with 19 data, transfers with 13 data, and deletion with 12 data. Out of the 25 dialogues, there are 3 respondents who stated more than 20 dialogues are readable, 7 respondents say less than 20 dialogues are readable. 5 respondents stated that 10 to 11 dialogues are readable enough, 5 respondents say less than 10 dialogues are readable enough. 10 respondents stated less than 5 dialogues are unreadable. Thus, the readability of the Indonesian subtitle in the movie is considered readable which holds the highest amount from the respondents.
