Abstract
This study focuses on politeness strategies found in the film Young Sheldon Season 1 script using Brown and Levinson's theory. The purpose of using politeness strategies is to make people able to communicate in the right language based on context when communication occurs. This study aims to determine the type of politeness strategy used in Young Sheldon's film, the dominant type of politeness request strategy used in the Young Sheldon film, and the factors that contribute to the selection of politeness strategies. This research is qualitative research. The data from this study are citations containing politeness strategies of speech greetings taken from the conversations of characters in the Young Sheldon film. The results showed that there were four types of politeness strategies used by the Young Sheldon movie characters, the four strategies were Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Off Record. The dominant type of politeness strategy in the film Young Sheldon is Bald on Record.
