Abstract
This term-paper is about a child's perception on separation based on religion between India and Pakistan. The separation of the two countries which was originally only due to religious differences made a child named Nisha confused, many things she did not understand, why should it be like this or that, is the difference wrong, why should it be violent, why should people be separated from people who have considered friends and family only because of different religions. This study focuses on discovering what actually happened at the time of the separation of the state and what the perception of a child who lives in the midst of this incident occurs. The purpose of this study is to reveal the perception of a child in seeing the loss of tolerance between religious people and the violence that occurs within it. The results of this study are to see intolerance and violence between religious people from the eyes of a child so that we can realize how bad this is especially for children. The Night Diary is a novel that tells the story of a little girl named Nisha who was forced to witness the loss of tolerance among religious people when India had to split into two countries shortly after independence from Britain. This novel was written by Veera Hiranandani based on the personal experience of the father who shared the bitterness in the separation of the countries of India and Pakistan. The Night Diary is the main source of this research, then Literary Theories, Literary Methods, Perception Concept based on philosophy and related techniques are secondary sources.
