Abstract

Language is one of the most important things in every human's social life because the main function of language which is for communication. Humans communicate with each other using language through speech acts.The purpose of this research is to know the types of speech acts which are dominantly presented by Five Feet Apart movie through its script. Speech acts is devided into three acts; locutionary acts, illocutionary acts, and perlocutionary acts. In this research, an illocutionary acts become main concern because it is the most important act in the speech acts and it related to the speaker’s intends. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze the selected of speech acts which are taken from the script, and classifies them according to the John R. Searle’s concept of types of illocutionary acts. The writer finds that the main characters used types of illocutinary acts: representative, directives, commisives, and expressives.
