Abstract
Speech style is a variation of speech which is used when people communicate with other people. The purpose of this study is to describe and find the type and dominant speech style which are used by Michelle Obama in “Jimmy Kimmel” talk show. According to Joos (1967), speech style is the forms of the language which the speaker uses and it depends on the degree of formality. He identified this style into five styles. Those are frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. Descriptive qualitative method is selected to analyzed the data. The theories that were applied in this study are Joos theory (1967), which concerns about speech style. The writer hopes that this research will help the reader to get a better understanding about speech style.
