Abstract

This term paper discusses about politeness strategies in language. Politeness is very important principle in language use. The politeness strategy also can help us to get what we want from the listener with a good communication. The politeness strategy also saves our faces. This research focuses on answering two formulation of problems as follows: 1) What kinds of politeness strategies are used by Meg March, Jo March, Beth March and Amy March in "Little Women" movie? and 2) Which politeness strategies are mostly used by Meg March, Jo March, Beth March and Amy March in "Little Women" movie?. The author uses qualitative research methods through analyzing the conversations of the main characters obtained from the movie script. This term-paper is done to figure out what type of strategy is used and the most widely used of politeness type. The results of the analysis show that the four main characters in Little Women movie used all types of politeness strategies including Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, Off-Record, and Bald on Record. Bald on Record is the most used type in this analyze.
