Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the context and classification of Illocutionary Acts and to understand the interpretation of the dialogue between speaker and hearer that use Illocutionary acts in the utterance of the main character in “The King 2019” movie script. This research is conducted by using the qualitative descriptive analysis method. The writer collects the data from the script then describes the contexts and classification of Illocutionary Acts. Based on the given theories, the data are analyzed one by one to know the context and types of illocutionary acts which are used in the script. The result of this study is as followed, from 40 data; there are five classifications of illocutionary acts which have been done by Hal as the main character in The King 2019 movie script. Representative, there are 7 data consists of convincing, explaining, stating, agreeing, and informing. Declarative, there are 4 data consists of declaring, and deciding. Commissive, there are 7 data consists of rejecting, threatening, and offering. Directive, there are 17 data consists of questioning, commanding, requesting, warning, and advising. Expressive, there are 5 data consists of being thankful, expressing anger, expressing happiness, and expressing dislike.
