Abstract

This study aims to analyse a movie script about inner conflict using an intrinsic and extrinsic approach. The approach of intrinsic is to analyzing the data is: Setting and Plot Characterization. While the extrinsic approach is used to apply the concept of a self-defense mechanism which includes the concepts of rationalization and denial. This research approach is a qualitative approach. The object of this research is data collection in the form of literary texts from the film To the Bone by director and writer Marti Noxon. The data from this study are in the form of research methods. The data collected through this type of library research. The data is supported by several literatures which are used to relate several theories, concepts and from the definition of relevant data as secondary sources. The result of this research Inner Conflict. Inner conflicts are matters related to emotions and thoughts that raise ethical and emotional questions. The main factor that caused Ellen's inner conflict was trauma when she saw her parents divorce. Ellen who knows her parents decide to seek her attention from her parents so that they do not become divorced by reducing the number. However, nothing that Ellen did did not have any effect on the divorce of her parents. From the problems that Ellen experienced, it made me interested in researching this complex problem in this film. Also, for now it is still rarely discussed in the field of psychology.
