Abstract

Requesting speech act is commonly used in daily life in directly or indirectly. A person speaks directly when she/he asks another for something such as asking, greeting, giving information, offering, complaining and criticizing. There are four types of requesting speech act, namely : indirect request, conventionally request (speaker’s-based condition), conventionally indirect ( hearer oriented condition) and direct request. Based on this case, researcher tries to analyse and classify types and strategy of request speech act in All Together Now. All Together Now is the story of a girl without home but has a very hight fighting spirit. The purpose of this research is to determine the types and to find out the meaning the strategy on their characters. The research belongs to descriptive qualitative. The researcher found 31 data showing request speech act. They were 6 data showing indirect request, 8 data showing speaker’s-based condition, 7 data showing hearer oriented condition and 10 data showing direct request. The researcher also found 8 strategy that the character uses. They were hint, question the abilities , willingness of the listener, suggestion, statement of speaker’s wishes and desire, speaker’s need and demand, obligation and imperative..
