Abstract

This term paper discussed figurative language used to make the readers interpret words well. They could also make readers interpret a word broadly. It was common for one word to have two or more meanings. Therefore, it must be interpreted contextually so as to avoid misunderstanding the meaning. In this thesis the author used a descriptive qualitative method. Where the data were obtained by downloading from the internet and then identified the figurative language in it. They were presented in table and being analyzed and grouped according to its use. The purpose of the research is an analysis that wanted to reach a point where every literary work contained an implied meaning behind them. There are many messages that she wanted to convey in her songs. Moral message like took good care of the earth, stayed away from drugs. But all of them were not directly said by her. Poetic and ambiguous lyrics were the main point of her songs. The result of this research was discovered ten types of figurative language contained in six songs, namely: personification, simile, irony, metaphor, hyperbole, symbol, idiom, paradox, metonymy and sarcasm. The final result was to understand the meaning shrouded in figurative language. From there, it can be found that the use of figurative language that is most often used in her song lyrics in the six song lyrics mentioned is sarcasm.
