Abstract

This term-paper is expected to find out about the causes and depiction of deviant sexual orientations (lesbian, gay, transgender, and queer) in literary works such as novel. This term-paper is discussed about the factors that caused deviation of sexual orientation in the literary works such as novel. It talks about a girl, Josette Kaufman or Jo who have sexual desire toward girls. But, when Jo find out that her girlfriend, Shelley, will married a man, Jo heart is broken. After that, Jo decided to marry a man too. But in the end, Jo come back with Shelley. The discussion in this term-paper are applying two approaches, intrinsic approach and extrinsic approach. The concept that is applied to analyze through intrinsic approach consist of characterization by using showing and telling methods, and The third person omniscient, plot and setting. For the extrinsic approaches, the concept that I used is sexual orientation. This research explains about the causative factors that caused deviant sexual orientation in the character Jo, as well as its relation to other intrinsic and extrinsic elements. In this research, “Mrs. Everything” novel is the primary sources and supported by some of relevant theories, concepts, and definitions which as secondary sources.
