Abstract

This study aims to explain the types of illocutionary speech acts and their functions found in the utterances of the main character, Peter Parker, in the “Spider-Man: Far from Home” movie script. The approach used in this research is a qualitative with a qualitative descriptive method to describe and analyze the data. The object of this research is the movie script for “Spider-Man: Far from Home”. The data used in this research are the utterances spoken by the main character, namely Peter Parker. The data collection technique used in this study is a documentation technique with movie transcript as a source of research data. The techniques used in analyzing the data are; 1) identifying data, 2) classifying the data, 3) describing data with analysis, 4) making conclusion. The results of this study are as follows: there are forty-seven data used, five data are classified as the declarative, nine data are classified as the representative, eleven data are classified as the expressive, eighteen data are classified as the directive, and four data are classified as the commissive. In order to give an order to someone, the character in this movie script, Peter, uses declarative and directive of illocutionary speech acts. And since in the movie script, he is described as a teenager with mood swings; so, he would use representative, expressive and/or commissive illocutionary speech acts.
