Abstract
This study aims to analyze the novel using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through intrinsic approach which consist characterization by point of view method, setting, plot and theme are used to analyze the data. The concept of stress is used to analyze through extrinsic approach. This study used qualitative methods because the result of the data will be in descriptive explanation. The object of this study is a novel entitled “Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian” by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson is son of Poseidon, one of three eldest gods and it make him being an easy target to be killed. By using the intrinsic and extrinsic appoaches, it can be proven in Percy’s character that he is self-blame, frustration, conflict and pressure. That characterization will prove stress as response and as a relation between the person and stressor. It can be conclude that this novel picturing the prophecy leading to stress in character named Percy Jackson. Even with those stress, Percy Jackson managed to keep going until all the prophecy had completed after the war was ended. There are five lines of the prophecy and two of them were happened directly for Percy.
