Abstract

This term paper is discuss about racial discrimination in the film “Just Mercy”. This racial discrimination is experienced by black race people who are not native American races. America is one of the countries that have problems regarding discriminatory behavior between races. This term paper uses a qualitative approach and is analyzed using the semiotic theory by Charles Sanders Peirce, which analyzes in three stages, that is sign, interpretant, object. The data obtained by the researcher for analysis was obtained through the selection of scenes in the film and text in the movie script. This study is aims to determine the signs and meaning of discrimination against the black race represented in the film “Just Mercy”. The result of this study indicate that there is an act of racial discrimination against the black race.
