Abstract

This research discusses the speech delivered by Kamala Harris at Democratic National Convention 2020. In this research, there are 3 main focuses that will be analyzed, namely determining the power relation, ideology, and inequality contained in Kamala Harris' speech at Democratic National Convention 2020. This research uses a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis methods, the object of this research is a transcript of Kamala Harris' speech at Democratic National Convention 2020 and the data used are utterances from that speech. The results of this study are as follows, there are 39 data used in this research, 12 data are related to power relations in which Harris wants to show that she has a great influence and qualified experience in politics. In addition, there are 15 data are related to ideology as Harris intend to show that she has a stronger and better ideology to build America. Furthermore, there are 12 data are included to inequality as she wants to attract the hearts of the Americans by raising the inequality issue that is rife and she wants to the raising issue. Therefore, Harris wants to influence her listeners to give their support for Harris in the US presidential and vice-presidential elections by showing her strength in politics, her ideology that prioritizes the welfare of the people and reduces inequality that occurs in America.
