Abstract

The Heir by Kiera Cass is a reflection of psychology of an 18-year-old girl who has to accept the throne of the Kingdom as Queen in Illéa for her parents' decisions. Post-caste discrimination took place and there was still a lot of chaos, Eadlyn's parents decided to organize Selection of her future spouse selection. Eadlyn had no interest in falling in love, but with his parents' compulsion, Eadlyn was finally willing to make the Selection in just three months. This study aims to analyze and show how their acts in the face of limited life choices. The analytical method used in this study through a literal approach to the intrinsic elements are implemented through the concept of characterization, plot, and setting, and the extrinsic elements through the psychological approach using the theory of Superego by Sigmund Freud. This research is a literature, a method that uses research materials derived from literary texts from the novel The Heir works by Kiera Cass as a primary source and supported by theory books related to research concepts. Key words: Psychology of Literature, Eadlyn Schreave, Superego, Sigmund Freud. Novel The Heir karangan Kiera Cass merupakan refleksi psikologi seorang gadis remaja berumur 18 tahun yang harus menerima tahta Kerajaan sebagai Ratu di Illéa atas keputusan orang tuanya. Diskriminasi pasca kasta terjadi dan masih banyak kekacauan, orang tua Eadlyn memutuskan untuk menyelenggarakan Seleksi pemilihan calon pasangan hidupnya. Eadlyn tidak berminat untuk merasakan jatuh cinta, namun dengan paksaan orang tuanya, akhirnya Eadlyn bersedia melakukan Seleksi hanya dalam waktu tiga bulan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menunjukkan bagaimana sikap Eadlyn dalam menghadapi proses Seleksi. Metode analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini melalui pendekatan sastra dengan unsur instrinsik yaitu diterapkan melalui konsep perwatakan, alur cerita dan latar, dan dengan unsur ekstrinsik melalui pendekatan psikologi menggunakan teori Superego oleh Sigmund Freud. Jenis penilitian yang berasal dari teks sastra dari novel The Heir karya Kiera Cass sebagai sumber utama dan didukung oleh buku teori yang terkait dengan konsep penilitian.
