Abstract

This research discusses about groups of society on African Slavery during seventeenth century to eighteenth. This story takes place in Africa especially in Fanteland and Asanteland. During these eras, the slaves are sold to America and other countries. It is caused the Chief of Fante cooperates with the Governor of the British on slave trade. James is a descent of British and Fante. He is a successor of his family as a slaver. However, he decides to be a farmer in a remote village of Asanteland. James should keep his authentic identity so that he can assimilate to farming community. In this research, the researcher uses the approaches of intrinsic and extrinsic. The intrinsic approach is focused on plot, character and characterization, and setting. Meanwhile, the extrinsic approach is focused on social process. There are three modes of social process that used in this research; cooperation, conflict, and assimilation. Keywords: Slavery, Society, Culture, Social process Skripsi ini membahas tentang kelompok-kelompok masyarakat pada masa perbudakan Afrika pada abad tujuh belas sampai delapan belas. Cerita ini berlatar belakang tempat di Afrika khususnya di Fanteland dan Asanteland. Pada era ini, para budak dijual ke Amerika dan beberapa negara lainya. Hal itu disebabkan kepala suku desa Fante bekerja sama dengan gubernur British dalam perdagangan budak. James adalah keturanan British dan Fante. Dia adalah seorang pewaris keluarga sebagai seorang pedagang budak. Namun, dia memutuskan untuk menjadi seorang petani di sebuah desa terpencil dari Asanteland. James harus menyembunyikan identitas aslinya supaya dia dapat membaur dengan dengan masyarakat pertanian. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan dua pendekatan yaitu pendekatan intrinsik dan pendekatan ekstrinsik. Pendekatan intrinsik berfokus pada alur, karakter dan karakterisasi, dan latar. Sedangkan pendekatan ektrinsik berfokus pada proses sosial. Ada tiga cara proses sosial yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini; kerja sama, konflik, dan asimilasi. Kata kunci: Perbudakan, Masyarakat, Budaya, Proses Sosial
