Abstract

This research aims to analyze the movie script using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. In the intrinsic approach I use elements of characteristics, plots and settings. Meanwhile, in the extrinsic approach I use the theory of representation of racism by Stuart Hall. This research is conducted by using a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method. The object of this research is the movie script Sorry to Bother You by Boots Riley. The results of this research show that there is racism experienced by the main character who has to imitate the voice of white people in his workplace in order to get some customers. Apart from racism, this movie script also contains discrimination experienced by the main character and his co-workers. This research is intended to increase awareness in terms of issues of racism that is still common and often occur in society.
