Abstract
People are required to cooperate with each other in order to make the conversation work well. To achieve these goals, we need to understand the cooperative principle stated by Grice. This study aims to analyze utterances about the violation of conversational maxims by characters in the movie script “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” (2022) written by Rian Johnson. The research approach used is qualitative, and content analysis is for the method of the research. The object of this research is “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” (2022) movie script. The result of the study reveals that all types of violations of conversational maxims are contained in this movie script. There are 32 data classified as violation maxim of quality, 7 as violation maxim of quantity, 7 as violation maxim of manner, and 4 as violation maxim of relation. Thus, the most frequent violation maxim in this movie script is the violation maxim of quality, and the less apparent is the violation maxim of relevance.
