Abstract

This term paper takes the material titled The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, published on June 13, 2017. This term paper aims to analyze and explain the reflection of the postfeminism of the main character in the novel by using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches in literature. The intrinsic approaches are used to analyze the main character’s characterization through point of view, plot, and setting. Meanwhile, the extrinsic approach used to analyze the novel is mainly postfeminism sensibility by Rosalind Gill. This research approach is carried out with a qualitative descriptive method that focuses on dialogues that describe words, sentences, and language. In this research, the primary focus is to analyze the main character, Evelyn Hugo, reflecting on postfeminism sensibility. The reflection of postfeminism can be seen and best understood through Evelyn Hugo's actions and choices throughout her life, where she proves herself to be independent and empowered by her femininity despite facing marginalization and objectification in her personal and professional life. She does not hesitate to sacrifice herself or use other people to help and protect herself and her family.
