Abstract

This research explores the portrayal of emotions in the immigrant characters of Minari (2021) by Lee Isaac Chung using the James-Lange emotion theory and a qualitative descriptive method. The study specifically examines how emotions happiness, sadness, and anger are represented through physiological changes in the characters, such as heavy breathing, trembling hands, and facial expressions. Through characterization, plot, and setting, these physiological responses are analyzed to understand how emotions emerge in the immigrant experience. The findings reveal that Jacob and Monica’s emotions are not only shaped by external conflicts but also by their bodily reactions, reflecting the struggles of cultural integration and family relationships. This research provides a deeper insight into the emotional dynamics in immigrant narratives, emphasizing the role of physiological changes in shaping their experiences.
