Abstract
This study aims to analyze the film script “The King of Staten Island (2020)” written by Judd Apatow, Pete Davidson, and Dave Sirus using psychological theories. This research uses the five stages of grief theory, popularized by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross to analyze the grief of the protagonist, Scott Carlin. This research focuses on the grieving phase Scott Carlin as the main character must go through, starting from denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance, after losing his father. This study uses a qualitative approach and narrative analysis to examine Scott's grief through intrinsic approaches, characterization, plot, and setting, which are aligned with the extrinsic approach of Kübler-Ross' five stages of grief theory. The data collection technique used is through the note-taking method. Thus, the results show that Scott's grief makes him go through the denial phase to the acceptance phase so that Scott can accept a new father figure in his life. In this movie, Scott reflects denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
