Abstract

This study aims to analyze the figurative language used in the song lyrics of Ariana Grande's album Eternal Sunshine. This research adopts Keraf’s theory on figurative language. The study employs a qualitative approach and uses descriptive qualitative methods to examine the figurative language present in the lyrics. The results reveal that there are 45 song lyrics containing six types of figurative language. These include idioms (16 lyrics), irony (7 lyrics), metaphors (4 lyrics), hyperboles (4 lyrics), personifications (4 lyrics), and similes (10 lyrics). Among these, idiom is identified as the most dominant type of figurative language used. The figurative language in Ariana Grande's album Eternal Sunshine adds depth and meaningfulness to the lyrics, allowing her to express complex emotions and ideas in a more impactful way. This album contains 13 songs and the songs is mostly talking about her her journey through love, heartbreak, and self-discovery
