Abstract

This term-paper is about politeness strategies in language. Politeness has an important role in maintaining communication to run well. In fact, there are still some difficulties experienced by speakers in communicating good and true communication. This research focuses on answering two formulation of problems as follows: 1) Which type of politeness strategy is used by the main characters in the film Fate of the Furious? and 2) What factors influence the choice of politeness language type by the main characters? the author uses qualitative research methods through analyzing the conversations of the main characters obtained from the movie script. This term-paper is done to find out what type of strategy is used and what factors influence the choice of politeness type. The results of the analysis show that the main characters in the Fate of the Furious movie use all types of politeness strategies including Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, Off-Record, and Bald on Record. Positive Politeness is the most used type because all of the main characters in this film is a team. The factors that influence the main characters are social variables consisting of social distance, relative power, and the rank of imposition.
