Abstract

This study analyzes the revenge on the character of Ian Graham in the novel The Huntress. This analysis will combine an intrinsic approach and an extrinsic approach. Intrinsic approach filled with characterization, plot, and setting. In the extrinsic approach, I use Sigmund Freud's theory of personality and the concept of revenge. The method used is descriptive qualitative which explains all the data in describing the quotes taken in the novel in explaining revenge. In this study, I will explain how revenge influence Ian Graham in taking action to find the murder of his brother through the theory of Personality Structure by Sigmund Freud. From the theory of personality structure, we can find the id, ego and superego which describe actions in revenge of Ian Graham. This research shows that Ian's id describes his desire for revenge, Ian's ego who has to deal with a reality that is not on his side, and the role of Ian's superego in determining the best punishment for his brother's murderer.
