Abstract

This term paper discusses about the theme of a literary work of novel using the intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through the intrinsic approaches I use these concepts: characterization, plot, setting. In the extrinsic part approach, I use defense mechanism (sublimation and aggression). This research is qualitative research which is a library research type. This analysis contains an interpretative analysis which use the method of data collection in the form of text from the novel Verity by Colleen Hoover as the primary source of the data and supported by literature which relates to the extrinsic theory, concepts and relevant textbooks for definitions as a secondary source.
