Abstract
This term-paper discusses the theme of a novel. Two approaches, intrinsic and extrinsic approaches, are applied to analyze this novel. The concepts that are applied to analyze through intrinsic approach are consist of characterization by using telling methods, plot and setting. The concept that is applied to analyze through extrinsic approach is emotion classification. This research explains about emotion classification among main character, Mary Pentecost Olivia ―MOP‖ as well as its relation to other intrinsic elements. In this research, novel ―In the Vines‖ is the primary source and supported by some of relevant theories, concepts, and definitions which are as secondary source.
