Abstract

This term paper is about The Issue of Morality in Arthur Character From Todd Philips’ Movie Joker using theory of discourse from John Searle, Freidrich Nietzsche. To be more specific, this paper will analyze the issue of morality in fiction movie Joker that has correlation with psychological aspect and philosophical aspect of the movie. There are several theories that I will use in this term paper. First Speech Acts theory from John Searle that will analyze Arthur’s dialogues throughout the movie. Second, Freidrich Nietzsche theory of moral genealogy that will deal with the morality that Arthur reflects in the movie. In Speech Acts, there are five types of illocutionary acts in Searle’s theory, that are: Assertive, Commissive, Directive, Expressive, and Declarative will be used in this paper. Furthermore, this study has qualitative range of research, that is interdisciplinary research of linguistic, history, and philosophy that will analyze the data which gathered from Joker movie as the primary source.
