Abstract

Part of the semiotics that students learn is signs. Signs are something that for someone means something else, or something that represents something other than something itself, such as metaphors. This study aims to find out how the mass media creates or recycles signs for the purpose of recognizing the signs in the film A Beautiful Mind. This study intends to analyze the signs used by the main players in the film A Beautiful Mind. This term paper analyzed the behavior of the main actors who suffered schizophrenia. I also took several references such as journals, websites, books to support the main data. The method in collecting data, I use documentation because the data is collected from the film. The data are arranged based on several types of signs in semiotics, namely icons, indexes and symbols. Then the signs of each type were analyzed using Charles S Pierce's theory.
