Abstract
This term paper is about “Illocutionary acts found in the Quentin Tarantino’s movie script “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”” using the speech acts theory of John Searle, unconsciousness and jokes’ theory by Sigmund Freud. This research will be done qualitatively without involving any numbers. To be more specific, this research is analyzing the implied meaning behind utterance of the characters through the speech acts theory which consists of locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts in the movie. After analyzing the implied meaning behind characters’ utterances, I categorized the types of jokes that the characters have uttered into two categories that are; tendentious joke and non-tendentious Joke. The theory of humor is dissecting the way the characters perform the jokes. If it is offensive then it can be categorized into tendentious joke, if it does not involve any offensive term then it is a non-tendentious joke. The theory of humor will be dealing with tendency of the joke.
