Abstract

This term paper analyzes Human Needs through the Main Characters Jim and Aurora in Jon Spaith’s movie script Passengers. The discussion is about the theme of literature by applying two approaches, intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through the intrinsic approach, the concept are, characterization using showing and telling methods, plot, and setting. For the extrinsic approaches, I use Maslow’s Theory of Hierarchy of Human Needs. This term paper analyzes a man who is awakened 90 years too early from a hibernation pod in 120 years space journey when the ship malfunctions. When he awakened, he panicked when he realizes that no one is awake except him. His attempts to make things right only lead to the realization that there is no way to sleep back in hibernation once awakened. Desperate because of the situation makes the main characters able to meet the hierarchy of human needs in their own way. This term paper is a variety of qualitative research, types of library research, interpretative analysis using the method by collecting data in the form of movie script of Passengers as the main source and is supported by some of the books, journals, literature, and internet websites that relate to the concept, theories, and the relevant definition as the secondary sources. The result of this research is that Based on Maslow’s theory, there are five levels of hierarchy of human needs that the main characters in Jon Spaith’ Passengers script have been fulfilled
