Abstract

This study examine about the effect of bipolar disorder the main character of Theodore Finch on his daily life. As a movie script that contained in All the Bright Places to show the main characters who has bipolar disorder, which can be known elements of psychology of literature. I used intrinsic approaches and extrinsic approaches. For intrinsic approaches it consist of characterization, plot, setting, and theme. For extrinsic approaches it consist of psychology of literature approach and concept of bipolar disorder. Whereas the method of this research I used qualitative research, because qualitative research focuses on aspects of interpretative understanding of human experience. The object of this research that I used is Theodore Finch as the main character of All the Bright Places and supported by a several other sources. In this study, All the Bright Places is the primary sources and reinforce by relevant concept. The theme of this movie script develop using the result of analysis intrinsic approach and extrinsic approach. All of elements has elaboration to support the theme of the movie script. Bipolar disorder of Theodore Finch has two episodes, which is manic episode and depressive episode. And also at least three effects on his daily life, which is irritability, aggressiveness, and feelings of guilt. Intrinsic approach can be used to analyze All the Bright Places movie script. I implemented showing method to understand the characterization of a few in the movie script.
